Notes on different vegan milk alternatives.
Oatly
- the Oatly product palette is a little confusing
- they have non-chilled
ones ones and chilled
ones
- Barista and No Sugar are available as both, with the same name
- there’s also chilled Deluxe and non-chilled Full Fat, which seem to be another pairing (almost same description, same packaging color, same ingredients list)
- seemingly they have discontinued the “classic” variant entirely…
- wrong, they renamed it: the default / classic is now fettarm / low fat
- Barista seems to be the new default variant
- there’s also a “lighter taste” Barista Edition variant now
- maybe interesting for ice cream?
2024-11-11 Non-Blind Tasting
Oatly Barista Edition (non-chilled) vs. Oatly Deluxe (chilled)
- similar cream off-white color
- Barista has little bubbles on the top, Deluxe doesn’t
- taste is quite similar, both oaty (“waffle dough taste”), Deluxe maybe a little less
- Deluxe feels a little creamier, smoother, thicker, Barista is waterier
- interesting as Deluxe has less fat than Barista (or the normal one)
- conclusion: I like Deluxe and its creaminess
- but the taste is similar, so for usage in products it probably doesn’t matter very much
2024-09-18 Blind Milk Tasting
Lidl Vemondo No Milk vs. Oatly Barista Edition
- A is whiter than B
- quite different flavors
- A tastes milkier, hard to describe
- A a little “waterier” than B
- B oatier
- B has that “waffle dough taste” I think
- pretty sure A is No Milk and B is Oatly
- Using A instead of B in vanilla ice cream might help against that waffle dough-iness
- check: I was correct
- No Milk is also oat-based, both 3.5 % fat
- What would be interesting next: Alpro Not Milk vs No Milk and Oatly Barist vs. non-Barista
